Thank you so much to all who came by the Elementary Classroom for our Castle Showcase. We are now experts at describing what all of the parts of a castle are and why they were important. We also learned about all the people that lived during the medieval times and how different things are today. If you were not able to stop by our classroom on Monday please look for an email to come home about where they will be displayed in the coming weeks. We plan to display them in one of the departments at Stephens College.
Spelling is a tool for writing. The purpose of learning to spell is so that writing may become easier, more fluent, more expressive, and more easily read and understood by others.
Our spelling workshop is underway. Students work in small groups on Monday mornings for spelling. They begin with a focus lesson to learn spelling strategies. They get their new spelling words for the week (these were sent home today). After they finish with all of their work, they can make a choice to use our learning opportunities. This week they can work with the word families; -ake and -ight, use the iPads, play hangman, and find definitions to new vocabulary. Please continue to practice their spelling words each night.
Our entire class is hard at work constructing castles. The younger students wrote out what materials they would need and a plan for their visual. The older students had to write out a list of materials as well and draw a blueprint before they could start building. We are using recycled materials and lots of other supplies. Thank you to all of our families who brought cardboard and other materials!
Three of our Education students in their Junior year have begun teaching math to our elementary students. They plan three lessons each week for four weeks. The elementary students enjoy learning with their new teachers.
